CloseRichard Evans’ first job on leaving school was as a hospital porter at University College Hospital in London, where he worked in the x-ray department. Inspired by the radiographers there, he went on to train as a diagnostic radiographer at the Middlesex Hospital and qualified with the Diploma of the College of Radiographers in 1982. Richard worked in London and specialised in neurological imaging before moving to Salisbury District Hospital where he set up the first CT scanning and subsequently MRI scanning services. He went on to be appointed as General Manager for the Radiology Directorate at Poole Hospital.
Richard has been Chief Executive Officer of the Society and the College of Radiographers since 2004. He was awarded the OBE in 2016 for services to radiography.
Gill Hodges has been a member of the Society of Radiographers since qualifying in 1988 from the Middlesex & University College Hospitals School of Radiotherapy, London, where she worked for a brief time before moving to Northern Ireland to work. She has been an active member on the Northern Ireland Council since 2000.
She is passionate that radiographers should be recognised for the amazing skill sets they have and the fabulous work they do ensuring that patients receive the most advanced care and treatment in diagnosis, treatment and monitoring pathways. She believes that training is the lifeblood of both the radiography profession and the professional body, and that radiographers need to invest themselves in ensuring that the training students receive on placement develops them and encourages them to be the best they possibly can be.
Gill is proud to call herself a radiographer.
Chris Kalinka is a radiographer to his core, being a radiographer is one of his proudest achievements. He has been a diagnostic radiographer for 35 years and has worked in most modalities, including running CT, nuclear medicine and interventional departments. He has been a radiology manager for nearly 20 years, so he appreciates the challenges for members leading our profession in senior positions. He currently works on national imaging workforce and education in Wales and has recently been involved in imaging essential services, both maintenance and recovery during the Covid pandemic.
Chris has a few messages which you may well hear him repeat:
- We are the largest workforce in imaging and therapy.
- Radiographers and the SCoR look after people.
- Radiographers can do anything with training and governance in place.
- Be one of the radiographers who helped and supported you – aspire to be one of the inspirational.
